Be prepared to discuss or answer:

  • Why you want this employer or position?

  • What you like in a boss?

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses? Developmental needs? What your boss/instructor would say about you?

  • Difficult situations: examples of tough decisions you’ve made, obstacles you have overcome. 

  • Specific examples of accomplishments and situations that set you apart from others.

  • What you want to do in your next position? In 3 years?

  • When would you be available to start?

Come with a list of prepared questions that demonstrate your interest in the organization:

  • Key skills needed to work here; what would be skills I would need to develop.

  • What would you expect me to accomplish in the first 6 months?

  • Who are the key players in the facility or organization? Describe the work force, customer population.

  • What is the culture, management style, reporting structure, and values?

  • What is subtly or overtly frowned upon?

  • Who I would need to learn to work with or would have a great affect on my job?

  • Who would be my peers, subordinates and what are they like? May I meet them?

  • Last person in job, how long the job has been open. Why?

  • How long the boss has been there.

  • How much support and training there is? How do I learn new things?

  • Growth potential, career ladder, variety in the job, evaluation and review process

  • Work environment

  • Review typical workweek, transportation, housing, and parking.

  • Explain what you could do for this organization and that which would set you apart from others.  Give examples!
