Resume Style Options

Linear Resume:

Your work experience should be presented chronologically with a brief paragraph describing the organization, the size and scope of position, the number of direct reports, and fiscal responsibility.  Achievements in each position are listed as bullet s points. Use action verbs for accomplishment statements.  Education, Skills and Professional Affiliations complete the layout. Do not use an Objective. It can limit your search.

Chronological Resume:

Work experience is laid out in chronological order beginning with the latest job first.  Following sections would be Education, Skills and Professional Affiliations.

Functional Resume:

Use this style when applying for a position that would use the broad range of your experiences rather than specific, accumulated skills.  It begins with your selected achievements, such as specific programs you coordinated and specialties you possess.  End this kind of resume with a brief employment history.

Electronic Resume:

This type of resume is being scanned by an optical character reader (OCR) instead of a human.  Skip the Objective portion.  Do not use any fancy fonts, layouts, boldface, shading or lines, as they will confuse the scanner.  The biggest change is the use of "keywords" or abbreviations for your job titles or qualifications.  Instead, industry buzzwords are very compatible: CEC (Certified Executive Chef), FMP (Foodservice Management Professional), RD (Registered Dietitian.)
